Full question: From April, the Scottish Government will gain limited powers to vary income tax rates in Scotland, before gaining further powers to vary rates when the Scotland Act is passed. Some political parties have proposed that income tax rates increase by 1p in the pound for all income tax bands, which they say will raise £500m a year and help avoid cuts to education and other services. However, other parties have proposed that income tax rates should remain the same as they are, at least until the Scotland Bill is passed, as the further powers will afford the Scottish Government greater flexibility regarding tax rates in the future. To what extent would you support or oppose a rise of 1% for the income tax rate?
