In this briefing we examine two questions about public attitudes towards Scotland’s constitutional status that arise from the UK’s decision to leave the EU. The first is to what extent have attitudes towards the EU and attitudes towards the constitutional question become intertwined? Is it the case that those who are in favour of EU membership are more likely to support independence – and vice versa? The second is how do voters react when they are asked to evaluate the consequences of being inside the EU versus being part of the UK? And what expectations do they have of what being in the EU but outside the UK might mean in practice?
